Product Showcase: Morse Taper Shank Drills

Product Showcase : Morse Taper Shank Drills

On this week's Product Showcase we will be taking another look at one of Somta's drills, the Morse Taper Drill.

Coming in both 'mm' and 'inch' variants, these drills are suited for general purpose drilling. As opposed to straight shank drills, the Morse Taper shank sits directly into a Morse Taper spindle (commonly found on standard pedestal drills and radial arm drills) and is self locking.

The end is shaped into a Morse Taper, which prevents slippage and the design allows for accurate centering. As the drill bit rotates, the part is held in place by friction caused by the tapered shank against the spindle that holds the tool. Additionally, as the end is designed to fit into a slot, the drill bit will continue to spin even when encountering resistance.

The drills come in Codes 201-205, which cover the 'mm' and 'inch' ranges from 3mm and 1/4" to 76mm and 2". Additionally, the drills also come in codes 211-214 which cover more specific lengths.

All drills use High Speed Steel and a Blue Finish, instead of a Bright Finish.
